The Youth Services committee, chaired by Rotarian Bob Blum, is excited to announce the Club’s sponsoring of an Interact Club at LaCosta Canyon High School. We have had two meetings to date this school year, with over 50 students attending. Rachel Williams is the president and James Etheridge, a teacher at LaCosta Canyon High School, is the faculty advisor.
The Youth Services committee is currently looking into creating a Rotaract Club at Mira Coastal College. Initial contacts with the administration and faculty of Mira Coastal have begun and we hope to move forward with a Rotaract Club in the near future.
L.E.A.D. – a Rotary program to promote “Service Above Self” in junior high schools, is also being undertaken. We will be working with 7th and 8th grade students at Diegueno Middle School.
We also will be sponsoring at least two high school students who will attend R.Y.L.A.’s (Rotary Leadership Youth Awards) District Conference in April. Rotarian Dennis Reese will be our Club’s contact.
The Youth Services committee, along with Rotarian Tom Harvey and faculty sponsor, Karen Franke, worked with students from LaCosta Canyon High School at the annual Rotary 4-Way Speech Contest in February.
